'TIMS' Position and Attitude Measurement Navigation System for Shield Tunneling Machines

TIMS
System is compatible with both gyro and optic survey methods
The TIMS shield machine navigation system is available in a variety of configurations to meet specific project needs.
Development of this system reflects the experience and knowhow we have gained in more than 2000 systems supplied to the gyrocompass-guided tunneling machinery market.
TIMS incorporates state of the art gyro technology and utilizes total station data to measure machine attitude which automates the surveying task. Continuous measurement enables TIMS to achieve a high degree of accuracy and efficiency in management and control of alignment with significant enhancements in productivity. Excavation operation factors take into consideration the intricate behavior of the shield machine as well as the influence of the strata and segment characteristics - information which is statistically processed to determine optimum machine attitude and alignment in relation to the path line and this is graphically displayed in real-time together with the precise position of the machine.

/// Features ///

  • Abundant system menu
Gyrocompass, laser(total station), leveling meter, network camera, gas detector, and Pit PC can be combined and configured to match all types of shield excavation applications.
  • Advanced network management
System can be monitored from any location on the PC network.
The remote maintenance & monitoring software (option) enables system monitoring and system maintenance from the outside via the Internet or telephone lines.
  • Easy to use graphical user interface
Operator friendly - work sequence-based operation is easy even for first-time users. Multi-screen monitor allows operator selection of two differing displays including position/attitude graphic screen, graphical data, ring reports, and daily reports. In addition, graphical data and data tables can be customized to user needs.
  • Enhanced productivity
Reduction in the amount of surveying required increases work efficiencies.
  • Quantitative capture of complex machine behavior
Characteristics of machine progress, including segment behavior, are computed and near future machine movement is estimated. The optimum machine attitude angle alignment required to maintain the path line as well as deviation are graphically displayed.
  • Attitude management and control with TIMS is simple and unerring
Machine attitude angle, which differs from machine position, responds quickly to changes in the jacking pattern. This allows the machine operator to adjust and control machine attitude in real time while viewing the monitor.
  • Excavation management data recording and print outs
Various data assimilated by the machine during excavation such as on earth pressure, jack stroke, etc., is stored in the PC's hard disc which enables the print out of ring information and daily reports.
  • System expandability
Online data output enables system expansion to meet user needs and system can be used as a local station to provide access to other upper level computer automatic directional control systems.
  • High systems reliability
System reliability is enhanced with various self-diagnostic functions including a communication function.
